This week Acton UP hired Christine Cassey as its newest reporter.
Christine told us a bit about herself. “I moved from Oakville to Acton with my family in 2014. We chose Acton because of the sense of community, affordability of housing, local events and amenities and the absence of Walmart. My spouses’ name is Darryl, and our daughter is MJ. MJ is 7 and attends Mackenzie Smith Bennett Public School (MSB). I do work full time but am fortunate to have flexible working hours as I work from home. My hobbies include training for, and competing in, Ironman events, acting as a board member for the Southern Ontario Triathlon Club, camping with my family at our site at Smallwood Acres (keeping it local), and traveling across Canada and the world when I can.”
Many of you may know her as the founder of The Acton Run Club. She started this group as a free learn to run clinic in 2015. The club has flourished and grown since that time with over 20 participants on any given Monday night. The learn to run program continues to run every fall starting the first Monday after school starts.
Or maybe you’ve met her through one of her other local volunteer or fundraising efforts including Food4Kids, Isaac’s Trek for Treats, or as a parent volunteer for MSB, The Acton Aqua Ducks, or Halton Hills Synchronized Swimming.
When asked what she feels she brings to Acton Up, Christine replied “I have 12 years of experience holding meetings, taking minutes and publishing a workplace newsletter. I’m no social media mogul but I’m fluent in Facebook and Instagram. For an outsider, I’ve established an extensive network within Acton. I’m friendly, outgoing, and talk to everyone. I’m interested and involved in what is happening within town and the surrounding area. I am excited to start further experiencing the community and share that with Acton UP’s readers. I love the multifaceted platform of UP. It meets the user where they are, online.”
Please join us in welcoming Christine to the Acton UP team.
