Waste Receptacle Destroyed Outside Acton Youth Centre

On the morning of Sunday, February 2nd, the waste receptacle outside the Acton Youth Centre on the north side of Mill and John Street was crushed by person or persons unknown. BIA staff were on scene by 9:30am to inspect the damage and contacted Halton Regional Police.

Halton Regional Police report that the damaged receptacle posed no safety issues. There was no debris left by a collision with a vehicle.

Town of Halton Hills Public Works staff had cleared the wreckage by roughly 2:00pm on Sunday.

Quality public waste receptacles of the type used in the BIA area cost upwards of $1300.00 to replace new. The receptacles are designed to withstand weather and daily use over several years.

A traffic barrel is currently marking the spot. The Downtown Acton BIA is considering its options to deal with the loss of the receptacle.

“Waste receptacles are one way the BIA can improve the Downtown area by giving residents the opportunity to easily get rid of garbage” said Alex Hilson, Acton BIA Coordinator. “It’s disappointing to have one taken out of service like this, but it happens. We’re exploring our options for replacement.”
