Ward 2 and Mayoral debates held by GWCA

The Glen Williams Community Association hosted a Mayoral and Ward 2 Candidates’ Debate at the Glen Williams Town Hall this past Thursday, October 11. All three candidates for Mayor, plus all three candidates for the Ward 2 Councillor seat, showed up to defend and explain their views on a variety of issues, including speeding, development and public transportation.

The first half of the debate covered the opinions of the Mayoral Candidates: Robert Gottardi, James Waldbusser and Rick Bonnette. Then, after a brief intermission where attendees were offered treats and punch, the Ward 2 Candidates squared off: Ted Brown, Bryan Lewis and Geoff Maltby.

Ward 2 covers the more ‘rural’ parts of Halton Hills, including hamlets like Limehouse, Stewarttown, and Glen Williams, and is a large Ward, covering the areas outside of Georgetown (old Georgetown is Ward 3; South Georgetown Ward 4) and Acton (Ward 1). There are two elected councillors for Ward 2 that sit on council, along with two candidates for the other three Wards, two regional councillors and the Mayor, who presides over all four Wards. So, there are eleven members of Halton Hills’ Council.

Voters receive two votes when they vote so they can choose two candidates for councillor. The two out of the three candidates in Ward 2 who receive the most votes will be elected to council.

Voters get one vote for Mayor.

The Municipal Election is Monday, October 22. Voter cards are being mailed out now.
