UPDATE - Man Arrested Following a Carjacking in Oakville On July 30, 2019, a lone male was responsible for an attempt theft of a vehicle from a Petro Canada gas station on Royal Windsor Drive in Oakville. Approximately 30 minutes later, the same male was involved in a gunpoint carjacking at a sports complex on Cornwall Road in Oakville where he successfully stole a vehicle. The stolen vehicle was later located by police being driven in the area of Dundas Street and Winston Churchill in Oakville and was successfully disabled utilizing a tire deflation device. The vehicle was abandoned in a small parking lot in the area of Dundas Street and Glen Erin Drive in Mississauga. It was at this location where the male suspect attempted to steal two other vehicles at gunpoint, but was unsuccessful. The suspect was located by police and arrested after a short standoff. A search of the surrounding area resulting in the recovery of an Air Soft pistol with an exact resemblance to a Remington 1911 pistol. The Halton Regional Police Service would like to thank the Peel Regional Police Service for their collaboration and quick response which brought this volatile situation to a safe a successful conclusion. On Tuesday July 30th 2019, shortly before 7:30 p.m., a female contacted police and indicated she had her vehicle stolen at gun point by an unknown male. This occurred in the area of Royal Windsor Drive and Cornwall Road in Oakville. Approximately 30 minutes earlier, police believe this same male suspect was involved in an attempt theft of a vehicle from a Petro Canada on Royal Windsor Drive. Members of the Halton Police and Peel Police attended the area and the stolen vehicle was later located in the area of Dundas Street and Winston Churchill Boulevard. The male suspect abandoned the vehicle in a commercial parking lot at Dundas Street and Woodchester Drive in Mississauga, where he attempted to steal a third vehicle. It was at this time; the male suspect was located by members of the Peel Police and arrested after a short standoff. The firearm used during this incident has been recovered. One victim did sustain a small laceration to his face as a result of his interaction with the male suspect. There were no other injuries during this incident and there are no current public safety concerns. This investigation is ongoing and an addition release will be issued.
