TOWN CHAMPIONS COMMUNITY BETTER CHALLENGE
HALTON HILLS, ON – Will Halton Hills be “Canada’s Most Active Community”?
The Community Better Challenge, in partnership with ParticipACTION, is a brand new annual physical activity challenge that rallies communities coast to coast to sit less and move more. According to Statistics Canada, only 18% of Canadian adults are getting the recommended amount of physical activity.
Between May 31st and June 16th, residents are encouraged to participate simply by being more active. Halton Hills could win $150,000 to go towards physical activity initiatives and be given the title of Canada’s Most Active Community.
People may incorporate physical activity where they live, work and play, and track their ‘active minutes’ after taking a walk, completing a yoga class, or going for a leisurely swim.
Mayor Rick Bonnette stated, “Wouldn’t it be great for Canada’s Most Patriotic Town to also become Canada’s Most Active Community. Our community embraces the health benefits and fun that go along with physical activities and are already champions. I am proud of our Town’s commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle and look forward to meeting residents at the Challenge launch.”
The Town of Halton Hills will be hosting 16 free activities throughout the community over the two week Challenge period, including swims, skates, yoga and tai chi in the park.
Communities, organizations, schools, sport groups and workplaces are encouraged to spread the word about the Challenge and provide opportunities for residents to get active. The Challenge launches on Saturday, May 25 at the Gellert Community Centre from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Learn more here
