Halton Hills, ON – Returning for a second year, “The Artist Next Door” is a commissioning program that supports the creation of new, community-engaged artwork. Artists living or working in Halton Hills are eligible to apply for up to $1000 (plus HST where applicable), for projects in any artistic discipline. This program is available to individual artists, artist teams or collectives, cultural businesses, and arts and cultural groups or organizations.
This stream of financial support for the arts and culture community was established last year as part of the Town of Halton Hills’ COVID-19 response. Projects that were successfully funded in 2021 showcased artists working in several artforms including music, theatre, visual arts, and dance.
“The success of this program has been two-fold,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “Our local artists have displayed exceptional creativity and resourcefulness in engaging the residents of Halton Hills, fostering connection, and building community throughout the pandemic. Equally important, The Artist Next Door program provides financial support for our local artists in what has been a very challenging year for the cultural sector.”
Applicants should incorporate a component of public engagement, community building, place-making, or accessible project design in their proposal.
Proposals must be submitted to culture@haltonhills.ca by May 31, 2021.
