HALTON HILLS, ON/ September 20, 2021 – If shelves could talk at Halton Hills Public Library (HHPL), they’d be asking for all overdue materials to be returned asap, because starting October 1, 2021, fines will once again be charged on all overdue items.
To encourage this return, existing fines will be waived – even those from five years ago – no questions asked! But only until October 1.
It has been 18 long months since HHPL took immediate steps during Covid by temporarily pausing all fines. No fines have accumulated on overdue materials between April 2020 and September 2021. Even though there have been no fines, HHPL needs patrons to return overdue library materials so that many others can enjoy them, and so that the shelves can be full of history, drama, romance, and mystery once again.
Fines begin again on October 1, and any overdue library item returned on or after October 1 will be subject to applicable fines, based on the item’s due date.
Please note library fines only apply to overdue items checked out on library accounts belonging to adults (18+). Library accounts for children and youth (up to age 17) remain fine free, and no fines will be charged to these accounts starting October 1. However, patrons still need to return overdue items on all fine-fee accounts, or a replacement fee will be charged for the items. The shelves in all areas of the Library are anxious to make a connection, regardless of age.
If patrons require library items for longer, the items can be renewed, provided another library patron has not requested them. To renew library items, patrons are asked to log into their Library account or contact the Library for assistance. Patrons can view what’s checked out to them, by looking online using their library card number. For assistance or questions, contact the Library directly at 905-873-2681 or email askus@haltonhills.ca.
