The Mexican Way Spices UP Acton’s Dance Scene with Salsa

Salsa Dancing is coming to Acton this week hosted by The Mexican Way restaurant and local dance instructor, performer and singer Pamela Sanchez. Dubbed “Mexican Night Salsa Escape,” and scheduled for 8-10 pm on April 4, the event is not intended to be a course in salsa dancing. Rather, this is a licensed occasion that is intended to get those attending up dancing and enjoying the music.

The term “salsa” actually means “sauce” in Spanish but this is not about the spicy concoction that we have with corn chips. Salsa dancing is a lively style that employs Caribbean and Latin rhythms. It originated in Cuba but has spread throughout the region and is especially popular at resorts in Mexico.

Local salsa instructor Pamela Sanchez brings a rich tapestry of dance and music expertise to Acton's "Mexican Night Salsa Escape." Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Pamela has been immersed in the rhythms of salsa and bachata from a young age. Her passion for dance followed her to Toronto, where she expanded her repertoire to include over 15 dance styles, ranging from Latin and Ballroom to social dances and even classical forms like ballet and hip hop.

A $30 cover fee entitles the dancers to one alcoholic drink or a beer, while appetizers and finger foods will be served throughout the evening. “This is the first time we've brought in a professional instructor but it's not really a class. She'll be helping people who are too shy to dance. It's more like an introduction to Salsa,” according to The Mexican Way owner Julian Cruz.

Cruz says ticket sales are brisk and are only available on-line at themexicanway.ca. “Acton is growing and this is part of our initiative to bring music and culture to Acton and give people something to do during the week,” said Cruz. “We're also getting great support from our out-of-town customers in Georgetown and Milton.”

"Salsa and bachata have always had a place in my heart, no matter where I am in life, I can always turn to music and dance to lift me up and remind me to just enjoy the present moment and not worry about anything else," Sanchez shares. "Music is a universal language that allows people to come together to experience moments together and I’m excited to continue to ignite that in couples and people who want to bring excitement into their lives." With her extensive background and passion for dance, Pamela hopes to make the "Mexican Night Salsa Escape" an unforgettable experience for all.
