On January 23, 2020 just before 12:45 pm police were called to a residence on Crosby Avenue in Burlington. On arrival, officers found a male victim with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. This victim was taken to hospital for treatment. The victim advised police of an altercation with the accused, a person known to the victim. Based on information that there may be a firearm in the home, the Tactical Rescue Unit attended the residence and assisted in the arrest of the accused. Injuries to the victim were not the result of a gunshot wound. To protect the identity of the victim, police will not be identifying the accused in this matter. A 23 year-old male from Burlington has been charged with assault with a weapon. The accused was held for bail and will appear in Milton Court on January 24, 2020. Police investigation has determined this to be an isolated incident between two parties known to one another. At no time was there a related broader threat to public safety. The Halton Regional Police Service would like to advise residents that when the Tactical Rescue Unit is deployed with the Armoured Rescue Vehicle (ARV) it is not necessarily indicative of a greater danger to public safety. Often the ARV provides police with the safest way to respond to situations with respect to community, officer and suspect safety.
