vSuccessful Weekend for DS Twisters


The Twisters representative and DS teams had a busy weekend of tournaments and a lone playoff game that saw the Atom BB team take on the Niagara Falls Rapids in game 1 of their best of 3 series and take home a 4-0 win. The Atom AA team had a strong showing in the Aurora Silver Stick Tournament, with a 2-0-1 record heading into the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon. In the first game of the tournament the AA team defeated the Burlington Barracudas 1-0, in game 2 the Twisters turned it on facing their rivals the Whitby Wolves. The Twisters came out strong and took home a 3-0 win while outshooting Whitby 15-5. On day one both Sophie Lust and Kalleigh Cromwell each picked up a shutout, while Olivia Shamblaw lead the scoring with 2 goals. On day 2 the Atom AA team needed at least 1 point to claim first place in their pool heading into the medal round. The stage was set in game 3 for a high pace game with the champion of the LLFHL East division playing the second place West team the Atom AA Twisters. The Twisters opened the scoring before the Markham Stars tied the game at 1 a piece, the Twisters regained a 3-1 lead but the Stars turned it on in the final 6 minutes of play, scoring 2 quick goals to tie the game at 3 all, as they needed also needed a point to be guaranteed to advance. In the semi-final match the AA team faced the Oakville Hornets, in a tightly matched game where both teams had equal chances to score. In the dying minutes of the game the Hornets grabbed a 1-0 lead which then stood as the final score, unfortunately sending the Twisters home early.


In Developmental Stream (DS) action both the Midget and Bantam team were in the action in the Orangeville Winter Classic. The Midget DS team, started the tournament with a 1-2-0 record and scored 12 goals while allowing 11. In the semi-final match up the Twisters faced North York in a rematch of game 3 of the round robin. The midget team bounced back from an earlier 1-0 loss to beat the Storm 2-1 in a tightly matched game. In the championship game the Aurora Panthers were too much to handle as they outscored the Midget DS team 3-1 to take home the championship. In Bantam DS action, the Twisters went 0-2-1 and just snuck into the medal round on the goals for/against tie breaker. In the semi-finals the Twisters wanted redemption against the Guelph Junior Gryphons and went out strong to claim a 3-2 win on route the championship game were the would play 3-0-1 Cambridge Roadrunners, in what was an exciting match. The Bantam DS team ultimately came out on top defeating the Gryphons 3-2 to claim gold.
