SIU Invokes Mandate After Burlington Incident

On November 17, 2021 at approximately 4:00 pm, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) responded to a residence in Burlington for reports of a person in crisis. Members of the Tactical Rescue Unit attended and communication was initiated with the male, who was barricaded inside a residence. After a period of time, officers entered the residence. Once inside the residence, officers were confronted with a male holding and edged weapon. An interaction ensued and an officer discharged an ARWEN (Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield). The male was apprehended and transported to hospital with a serious injury.


The SIU (Special Investigations Unit) has invoked their mandate in regards to this incident, thus no further details will be provided by the HRPS. Any further questions should be directed to the SIU.
