SERVICE CLUBS SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR HALTON HILLS YOUTH

SERVICE CLUBS SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR HALTON HILLS YOUTH HALTON HILLS, ON – Local youth continue to benefit from mental health services at the Halton Hills Youth Centres thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Halton Hills Service Club Collaborative. Six local Service Clubs with a mandate for supporting youth, including Kinsmen Club of Georgetown, Rotary Club of Acton, Optimist Club of Halton Hills, Rotary Club of Georgetown, Lions Club of Georgetown and Kiwanis Club of Georgetown, collaborated resources and provided $18,500 of funding to support an Intensive Youth Worker position at both the Acton and Georgetown locations. In partnership with Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK), the Intensive Youth Worker ensures that all youth frequenting the youth centres are provided access to mental health services. The number of youth supported by the Intensive Youth Worker has grown over the past few months, demonstrating the continued need for this service in Halton Hills. As an integral part of the success of the program, this service has benefitted from donations, grants and other funding streams to ensure its continuity. “The mental health and dignity of our young people must and will always be a top priority,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “Few families have not been touched by a loved one with a mental health issue. Fast access to caring and experienced professional mental health services is not only essential, but in many cases, life-saving. We thank these Service Clubs for their generosity and commitment to ensuring young people receive the help they and their families deserve.” Halton Hills Youth Centres are supervised, recreation-based youth drop-in locations that offer scheduled activities supporting an array of active and passive recreation and social opportunities for youth. Trained staff work with youth and provide referrals to services in Halton Hills and within Halton Region.
