On April 15, 2018, an alert member of the public recognized an unfamiliar vehicle parked in her neighbour's driveway in the area of Third Line and Marine Drive in the Town of Oakville.
Based on these keen observation skills, she contacted the Halton Police to request an investigation into the matter. As a result, police located a female in the suspect vehicle who was trespassing on the property and was in possession of break and enter tools along with illegal drugs.
Kelly SLANHOF (37) of Oakville was arrested and charged with:
trespassing at night possession of break-in instruments unauthorized possession of a weapon possession of a controlled substance (2 counts) and resist arrest
She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
This is an excellent example of citizens looking out for each other and being aware of their surroundings. The quick actions of the witness contacting the police and not confronting the suspect led police to discover an individual committing multiple criminal offences and may have prevented a break and enter.
Anyone who may have any additional information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825 4747 ext. 2216
