Royal Canadian Air Force makes a special landing in Prospect Park


On Saturday Sept 8th members of the Royal Canadian Air Force made a special landing in Prospect Park in Acton.


Flying in a CH-146, a utility tactical transport helicopter that has been in service since 1995, used for search and rescue missions, surveillance and reconnaissance, army training, casualty evacuation and counter drug operations, members of the Royal Canadian Air Force, which included Capt. Chris Gallinger, A former Air Cadet for Acton’s 197 Squadron made a special landing in prospect park to meet and greet the current 197 Squadron, as well as Mayor Rick Bonnette, Councillors Clark Sommerville and Mike Albano and members of the media.After Landing, Capt Gallinger and his co pilots Capt. Findlater and Cpl. Durand answered various questions from the 197 Squadron as well as the community.


“The squadron has been trying to find an opportunity for Captain Gallinger to speak to our current cadets. So when he had an opportunity to drop in on his way from the London air show, on route to Bagotville it seemed the perfect opportunity to do it. “ Said Captain Scott Legge Deputy Commanding Officer for 197 Squadron.Capt. Chris Gallinger a former resident of Rockwood was an Air Cadet at 197 Squadron from 1998-2004 and attended SLC in 2002 and CRGS in 2003. After graduating high school he attended Royal Military College of Canada from 2004 to 2008 and completed a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering while also holding various leadership positions including Squadron Leader. After graduation in 2008 Chris was posted to the Canadian Space Agency in St-Hubert, Qc to await pilot training and was employed as the programmer. In August 2009, Capt Gallinger was posted to Moose Jaw, Sk and completed Phase 2 pilot trains on the Harvard 2. From 2011 to 2014 he was posted to Portage La Prairie,MB and then Bagotville,Qc to awaitPhase 3 Helicoptertraining. He received his wings in Sept of 2015 and was posted to 439Sqn In Bagotville, Qc as a search and rescue pilot on the Ch146 Griffon.“This represents another example of the fabulous opportunities that the Air Cadets offer in our program. “ Said Capt.
