Robbery at Vinyl Land
On Thursday the 11th of October at around 12:00am to 1:00am according to Vinyl Land Owner Frank Gataveckas, at least one person entered Vinyl Land through the back, and stole money from the till and also a laptop.
Police dusted for finger prints and took down information.
Frank says “ The back door was pried open” then the thief(s) moved their way up a conveyor belt that was in place as part of the building since its hardware store days, long before Vinyl Land. After moving back downstairs from the conveyor belt, the thief(s) stole the computer and the cash, and proceeded to make their way out the front door.
Frank says “It doesn’t feel too good”, “If this keeps happening all the time, this is a deterrent for a business or for anybody to locate here, then they don’t feel very good about being here.”
Frank talked about a possible solution. “ I think the Business Association or everybody in Acton here that has a business, should get together or agrees upon we hire some security to randomly go through and do night sort of watches from about midnight to 5:00 in the morning on a random type of basis.” Frank goes on to say “ When it gets known its being done here actively it will deter more of this happening, and people will feel safer but also that their businesses here will thriving, rather than being afraid”, “If we all get together about this we will feel better about it.”
Frank brought up his plan at the BIA meeting.
After the BIA meeting, we spoke with BIA manager Tyler King. Tyler says that it sounds as if the robbery was targeted and the BIA did not feel nighttime security would be a helpful action. "I don't see it as a security issue as much as a targeted thing". Tyler reminds stores to keep there lights on at night as a deterrent. "At least if your lights are on, if someone sees shady stuff going on in your store they can report it to the police"
Despite the robbery, Frank is still looking forward to his year anniversary celebration on the 9th,10th,11th of November.
