Misao Sushi Set to Open Doors December 5th

Acton is getting a sushi restaurant! Misao Sushi will be located at 10 Mill Street East, on the site of the former Lily Thai restaurant. New owner Abraham Meang is hoping to be open for dining on Dec 5.

“I looked on Google and was surprised that there is no sushi restaurant in Acton,” said Meang. “You should have a sushi restaurant in Acton, you've got a Sobey's and high school and elementary schools. I want to be the first one. The people of Acton will love it.”

Meang is 46 years old and was born in the Republic of South Korea. “In Korea I worked managing projects in construction. But when I came to Canada, I decided to take an entirely new direction.”

Meang studied culinary business management and has spent the last eight years working as a sushi chef in Mississauga. He has also hired a sushi chef with 30 years experience, the same chef that was his mentor for the last eight years.

Meang is now in the final stage of preparedness; his freezers have just been delivered and he's waiting for his glass sushi showcase to arrive. The showcase will be located in the middle of a bar area where customers can watch the chef preparing the portions.

He admits his biggest challenge is going to be accessing types of fish. “Except for the salmon everything is frozen. There's not enough variety of fish in Canada,” he said. “The salmon is good but it's hard to get anything else.”

Nonetheless, Meang is planning on offering a large number of dishes. “I'm going to do everything that you can get in Toronto—almost everything. I'll have vegetarian choices as well: California roll, avocado roll, avocado/cucumber roll, asparagus roll, shrimp, salmon and so much more,” he added.

Meang also took time to explain why he called his restaurant Misao Sushi. “Misao means “faith” in Japanese and that's what I stand for: good portions, good price and good quality.”

He also explained why he goes by the first name of Abraham, although it's not a common name in Korea. “It's because my Korean legal name is hard to pronounce. Here in Canada people call me Abraham.”
