HALTON HILLS, ON – It’s no secret that Mayor Rick Bonnette loves two things – his community and a good hockey game. The two passions came together with the recent gold medal victory by the Olympic Women’s hockey team, that featured Georgetown resident Sarah Fillier.
“It’s fantastic. I had shivers watching the game. To see our women at the top of the medal podium and one of our own reaching this monumental achievement is just incredible,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette.
The Town of Halton Hills saw three local athletes achieve the dream of making it to the Olympics; the Mayor noting that “This is an incredible feat of dedication, hard work and endurance.” Earlier he recognized athletes Jasmine Baird (snowboard), Sara Villani (bobsled) and Fillier in his local column, encouraging residents to share their support on social media. Baird and Fillier both hail from Georgetown while Villani calls Norval home. The Beijing 2022 Games were the first Olympics for all three athletes.
“I speak for all of Town Council when I say, how very proud we are that our community was represented by three individuals who now bear the moniker of ‘Olympian’, said the Mayor. Planning is in the works to formally recognize the athletes while municipal marquees will post a message of congratulations on the gold medal win of Sarah Fillier and the women’s hockey team
