LINKS2CARE BACKPACK PROGRAM 2019
Links2Care kicked off its ninth-annual Backpack Program campaign on July 8th at the Georgetown Market Place mall with giant buses to fill with donations of new backpacks and school supplies for local students in need.
Not only does this program help lower-income students start off the school year on the right foot, parents’ financial and emotional stress is also alleviated as they avoid dipping into rent or food budgets to ensure their children have the tools they need to succeed.
Last year, Links2Care provided 185 Halton Hills students with new backpacks filled with essential learning tools thanks to the generous support of local residents, groups and businesses.
In addition, 25 high school students volunteered 170 hours toward their graduation requirement and gained business, marketing and organizational skills while developing peer empathy and community awareness. This is certainly a “pay it forward” program which nurtures young volunteers and recipients to become civically-minded adults.
Donations are also accepted at Links2Care Acton (47 Mill St.) and Georgetown (360 Guelph St.) locations and applications are available at any of these sites as well as at the food banks and online at www.links2care.ca Application deadline is August 9, 2019. For further information, please call 905-873-6502. Help us make this year’s campaign even bigger and better.
