The new year was only a few hours old when we received news that 93-year-old James Feenstra had passed away.
This message from Peggy Graham : On behalf of the executive and members of Branch 197, I offer our deepest sympathy in the loss of our comrade James Feenstra, a war veteran, and branch member for 63 years. We will miss his visits to the branch.
On Jan 1st at the New Years Levee, we had a terrific crowd out and they all enjoyed good food as well as entertainment by the ever-popular Ronnie Russell. Phyllis Bunn once again over saw the Early Bird draw and the following names were drawn by her: Kimberley Craig, Tracy Archer, and Gayle Jarrett. Congratulations to these members who will have their membership paid for 2021.
On Saturday January 4th, we hosted the zone cribbage. Thanks to Dave McLean and his group for putting in a great day (many volunteers), The ladies Auxiliary. for a delicious lunch, and the 24 Teams that participated. A team from the Milton Legion won the Tournament with the following Acton team placing second. Johnny Uiterwyk , Keith Andrews , Jack Mowat and Richard Shannon. Congratulations guys. Also, going forward to the next round are, Angie Mowat, John knight , Bert Venema and Teresa Uiterwyk, after finishing 5th. Gook luck next round. These teams will represent Br 197 in Hagersville on Feb. 1, 2020’
Also on January 4th we sent a team of Ladies Darts Players to Bramalea, and the following team won that tournament: Joan Maloney, Joanne Knight, Loris Savage and Nancy McClelland. Well done Ladies.
On January 11th, Branch 197 Ladies Auxiliary hosted their Zone Euchre. Once again, our Ladies were successful in that they place 1st and second in this tournament. Congratulations go out to: Sue Poulsen, Tee Uiterwyck, Connie Richardson and Nicole Lumbers who finished first, whilst: Betty Green, Norma Titus, Phyllis Bunn, and Fran Morris finished in second place. Well done Ladies. Joan would like to thank all the volunteers who assisted on the day as well as all those Ladies who provided baked goods and sandwiches for sale.
We also sent a Darts team to the Brampton Legion on Saturday January 11th to the Zone Tournament and I hear that the following team placed fourth and will move on to the District Tournament to be held in Waterdown on Feb. 8th: Wayne Amirault, Trevor Marais, Eddward Ebbinge, and Rob Leach. Good luck Guys !!
Looking ahead at the calendar. Our Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting their District qualifying darts on Saturday January 26th in the Games room. Winter Horseshoes is scheduled for Saturday February 2nd. Winter fun Day is scheduled for Sunday February 16th, and I understand Lynda is planning a Valentines Day Dance for Friday February 14th. Lots to look forward to. Details to follow.
