The executive decided to close the branch as of December 20th because of the rise in Covid numbers. We will review this on January 3rd. In my last column, leading up to the Elvis tribute concerts I called for volunteers. The response was heartwarming as we were flooded with offers of help. December saw familiar faces alongside new members and even non-members and teenagers earning volunteer hours. Thank you all. We raised over $16k on our Poppy campaign and posted our thanks in the local News media. Once again it was a terrific effort on the part of willing volunteers. I need to mention a couple of those people here as they are the backbone of this campaign. I am referring to Keith Andrews, Dave McLean and Lori Savage, who have been more than holding up their end for several years now. Special thanks also, to all our Cadets, who brave the weather on our behalf. We sent a cheque for $1k.to the Sunnybrook comfort fund with our special wishes to all the veterans residing there. A successful Turkey roll was the last special function of the year and we do not know when we can schedule the next one will be, but I will try to keep you posted. Please check the webpage at legion197.com, and in addition we will be posting information on Social- Media. David Maloney is the public relations officer for the Acton Legion, Branch 197.
