Legion News (26/11/21)

DAVID MALONEY

On November 6th we marched with pride along Mill Street to the Cenotaph, masked up and Covid protocols awareness all around. We were not expecting a lot of people to turn up but were pleasantly surprised to find so many people in attendance especially at the luncheon where covid protocol was even tighter. We missed having the Acton citizen band, though several individual members were able to join us including the bugler, young Alex McBurney who did us the honour of playing Last Post and Reveille.

On November 11th, our Navy League and Air cadets were able to join us along with a contingent from two schools who all read poems. Once again, the gathering was larger than expected.

Our first crack at a Christmas Bazaar on November 13th was a huge success as we saw a steady flow of bargain hunters go through the main hall, and one lucky lady took home $880 from a 50/50 raffle.

On Saturday November 20th we offered a Christmas with Santa breakfast and teamed up with local I.T. store ‘Titan Tek’ to offer photos with Santa. This provided is with some covid protocol challenges, but we managed to produce a unique solution devised by the photographer who delivered pictures of the kids in a frame held by Santa.

Cathy was super pleased with the entries that came from local schools for the Remembrance day Poster and Literary contest. Judging the winners was a difficult task. Finalist will be contacted and invited to a special evening at the Legion.
