DAVID MALONEY

Hey!! We finally opened the branch, although it was a somewhat subdued opening on June 18th, due to inclement weather. After a two-week pilot we are now open to all comers. The popular Swiss Chalet dinner scheduled for July 16th is selling well. Lynda would like to start serving BBQ food on the patio throughout the summer, but we are short on Volunteer crews. We are asking members to please step up by sending an email to the branch which Lynda is monitoring. Early bird winners are Susan Hammond, Ron Millard and Phyllis Bunn whose membership will prepaid for 2022. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of Ivan Kilby, our comrade who passed away recently. Ivan was a member of branch 197 for 59 years and we will miss him, especially amongst the card players. At the Exec meeting on June 28th, it was decided that the branch would be donating $1000.00 to the Red Harp’s 2021 “Rally for CAShh”, in Ivan's memory as Ivan drove for CASHH for twenty years. Our social media guru, Ryan Jenkins came up with the idea of a Flag exchange whereby you bring in your old Canadian flag and receive a new one. This program, open to the public, is going well and will continue beyond July 1st. Recently, Kati was telling me about one of her former top cadets, Alessio Luna, who is currently attending RMC Kingston. He is training to be an Aerospace Engineer Officer. I gave officer cadet Luna a call to ask him how he was doing. Having completed his third-year aerospace preparatory phase one and earning his French profile in his third year, Alessio is now spending the summer in Saskatchewan attached to Canada’s 431 Air demonstration squadron, better known to the rest of us as the famous’ Snowbirds’. He is having a great time learning from some of the finest aerospace technicians in the country. In august he will return to RMC for his final year and if he can get leave, he will join us once again for Remembrance Day 2021. Please check the webpage at legion197.com, and in addition we will be posting information on Facebook. You can email the branch at rclbr197@cogeco.net DAVID MALONEY PRO BRANCH 197. ACTON
