During the recent Council meeting on February 13, Mayor Ann Lawlor shared that she had received a letter from King Charles III. Mayor Lawlor expressed her excitement, stating, "I was really kinda thrilled, we got a letter from the King, and I've never had a letter from the King before."

The letter from His Majesty King Charles III was addressed to both Mayor Ann Lawyer and the residents of Halton Hills, and it was sent in appreciation for the book of condolences sent by the community following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The letter read, "The king was greatly touched by the kind messages of sympathy and wonderful tributes to the late Queen written by the signatories.”

In the letter, King Charles III also extended his "warmest thanks, and very best wishes." Accompanying the letter was a card featuring a photo of King Charles III (then Prince) as a boy with his mother, the former Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022, the year of her death also coincided with the celebration of her Platinum Jubilee which took place February 6 2022, marking 70 years as the British Monarch. She remains Britain’s longest serving Monarch.

“That’s a bit of a highlight, to get mail from Buckingham Palace.” said Lawlor.
