On December 31, 2020 Halton District School Board (HDSB) (www.hdsb.ca) communicated that “Elementary students will learn remotely from Jan. 4 - 8. Schools will remain closed to students for in-person learning until Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. All current elementary students enrolled in virtual school will continue in virtual learning.” And that “Secondary students will move to full remote learning beginning Monday, Jan. 4. Secondary schools (Grade 9 - 12) will remain closed to in-person learning for students until Friday, Jan. 22, 2021. Secondary schools will reopen to students for in-person learning on Monday, Jan. 25. All current secondary students enrolled in virtual school will continue in virtual learning.” Then on January 7, parents got notification “Elementary students will continue to learn remotely from home. Schools will remain closed to students for in-person learning until Monday, Jan. 25, 2021.” Announcements similar to these can also be found on the Halton District Catholic School Board (HDCSB) website at https://www.hcdsb.org/. On January 12 the government announced that provincial hotspots like Toronto, Peel, York, Windsor and Hamilton would remain online until at least February 10, with HDSB’s fate to be decided January 20. Late afternoon January 20, Education Minister Stephen Lecce finally announced that while many schools in boards in Southern Ontario will return to in person learning next week, Halton and Durham however, will not be among them and will continue in the online format. If online learning is working for you, HDSB has been reminding families that switching delivery models for elementary students (in-person to online or vise versa) is available through the Change in Delivery Model Form. The form must be completed before Friday, Jan. 22 at 11:59 p.m. and can be found at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfa_wfif1WEydAH0ntrdrhZirHQfyI6rYQladV__w8KlLNp2w/viewform. The change would be effective March 1, 2021.
