HALTON HILLS, ON – On January 27, the Town of Halton Hills proudly awarded a $30,000 Building and Property Renovation Grant, part of the Community Improvement Plan (CIP), to Heritage Acton for improvements to the Acton Town Hall Centre. The grant funded critical upgrades, including the installation of a new HVAC system and interior repairs and renovations. These enhancements have significantly improved the functionality of the facility, enabling increased rentals and event hosting opportunities.

Mayor Ann Lawlor, joined by Ward 1 Councillors Hilson and Albano, Regional Councillor Somerville, and members of the Town’s Economic Development division, presented a ceremonial cheque to celebrate the completion of the project and its positive impact on the Acton community.

“The Town of Halton Hills remains committed to supporting community heritage and economic development through its CIP program, said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “Ensuring the preservation of spaces that hold historical and cultural significance such as Acton Town Hall supports the quality of life and unique charm that is Halton Hills.”

In 2022, Heritage Acton received a $17,500 Façade Improvement Grant to support the approximately $500,000 renovation and restoration to the historic building, marking this as the second community grant to support the preservation of the former Town Hall.

Constructed in 1882, the Acton Town Hall has served as a cornerstone of the community for over 143 years. Originally operating as a social and community hub for more than 80 years, the building was purchased by Heritage Acton in 1982 to preserve its historic character. In 1988, it became the first designated heritage property in Halton Hills.

“The support we’ve received from the Town of Halton Hills over the years has been instrumental in preserving this historic building,” said Larry Lichty, Chair of Heritage Acton. “This grant enabled us to complete much-needed repairs and renovations, improving both the interior and exterior of the facility. The enhancements have boosted our ability to attract rentals and events, and we’re proud to have worked with local contractors to complete the project.”

The Community Improvement Plan is one of the Town's key economic development tools. Through targeted grant programs, the CIP encourages private sector investments that generate many community benefits, including vibrant downtowns to live, visit and shop in; retention and growth of small businesses; local jobs; redevelopment of idle brownfields; thriving agriculture and agri-tourism; and heritage preservation. The CIP helps make Halton Hills the best place to live, work, play and invest.
