Halton Hills’ Culture Days Tops National Rankings

HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills made history, claiming top honours in national Culture Days rankings for the first time. Recognized as first in the “Small Municipalities” category, the Town also placed seventhoverall across all participating communities in the country. Earlier this fall, Halton Hills offered 134 free Culture Days activities for the public, hosted by the Town, artists, cultural organizations, and businesses. The record-breaking number of activities reflect an increase of 13 per cent over previous years. From September 20 to October13, over 6500 residents and visitors took part in Culture Days programs by 42 organizers across 58 venues.

“Congratulations to all the artists and cultural groups involved in this year’s Culture Days celebrations,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “Halton Hills has a rich and active arts and culture sector, which contributes daily to the Town’s economic prosperity and quality of life. It’s wonderful to see us celebrated at the national level, and a great reminder of the creative experiences we can find close to home!”

In its ninth year, Halton Hills Culture Days also received recognition from the Ontario Culture Days Spotlights Awards. “Arts-STEM Night,” an activity presented by Youth Committee member Anika Vats, was shortlisted for the People’s Choice Award. The Halton Hills Culture Days Youth Committee was a new initiative this year resulting in three engaging activities organized ‘by youth for youth.’ Other highlights included the return of Doors Open to Halton Hills, as well as “Harmony in Culture,” a regional project delivered in partnership with Burlington, Milton, Oakville and Halton Region.

Culture Days is an annual national celebration of arts and culture that invites the public to participate in free and by-donation arts and cultural events to try something new and discover local arts and culture opportunities.
