Creating A Scene dance/drama showcase to be held Nov. 14
More than 300 students taking part in event at Burlington Performing Arts Centre
More than 300 Halton District School Board students will perform in the annual Creating A Scene event on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018 at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre (440 Locust St. Burlington).
Beginning at 7 p.m., the showcase will feature Grade 5-12 students performing original scenes of choreographed dances, improvisation, creative movement, and dramatic presentations. These performances are inspired by themes that include, social media, self-acceptance, mental health, natural disasters, social justice issues, and bullying. All performances apply the creative process, and focus on the elements of dance and drama from the provincial arts curriculum.
The finale, always a crowd favorite, will include all 300-plus students performing on stage at the same time.
Preparation for Creating A Scene begins in early September, with students spending many hours rehearsing up until the day of the show.
“Creating A Scene begins as a creative vision and develops into a spectacular annual showcase because of the excitement of the students, sincere dedication of arts teachers, encouragement of parents, superintendents, administrators, trustees, and staff,” says Rebecca MacRae, Instructional Program Leader for the Halton District School Board. “The steering team of Halton teachers, and the backstage crew from Acton District High School, plan and execute a show to remember. The collaboration that takes place between school communities to create this event will be a lifelong memory for our students.”
Tickets cost $14 each and can be purchased by visiting www.burlingtonpac.ca/what-s-on.html or in person at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre box office.
