Experience the live launch of Gaudeamus Choirs’ collaborative song with special guest and songwriter Aynsley Saxe at its upcoming spring concert on Apr. 27.
The choir recorded Saxe’s latest single, “Beautiful Tomorrow”, with the Georgetown based singer-songwriter in March, just in time for Earth Day 2019. The song has an environmental focus and features 20 youth
singing background vocals. It was a natural fit for Gaudeamus, who have traditionally performed an earth-themed concert every spring.
Inspired by author Lorna Byrne and a whale that was found with 80 plastic bags in its stomach, Beautiful Tomorrow has a hopeful, yet urgent message and was written to promote positive change for the planet. One mom commented that her eyes filled with tears as she listened to the kids record their part.
“It can seem overwhelming to feel like you can personally make a difference”, says Aynsley. “It’s easy to disengage and feel like the problems are too big. But if everyone decided they wanted to make a difference, big changes could happen. If we all ask ourselves, ‘How can I help?’ and then do it, we can change things for the better.” She gratefully acknowledges the support of the Town of Halton Hills for this song project.
Vocalist Emily Daquano will also be a special guest of the choir. Emily currently conducts with the Mississauga Children’s Choir, and runs of voice studio in Georgetown.
This 13th annual spring concert, with director Diane Murray-Charrett and pianist David Bernacki, will be the last for the Gaudeamus Choirs of Halton Hills. Says Murray-Charrett of the program shift from children’s choir to a voice studio: “I am so grateful for all the families who have shared their children with me and been witnesses to the skill, musicianship, beauty, and magic that can happen when children sing together. I hope all that they have learned through Gaudeamus will carry them forward through their life adventures.”
Join the choir at its final concert to celebrate a 13-year contribution to music in the community of Halton Hills and mentorship of youth in music.
The concert takes place Sat. Apr. 27 at 4 PM at St. John’s United Church, 11 Guelph Street in Georgetown, a fully accessible venue.
