Fatal motor vehicle collision, 17-Side Road and Trafalgar Road, Georgetown

On Wednesday December 27th at 4:40 pm, Halton Regional Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 17 Side Road and Trafalgar Road in the Town of Halton Hills.

The collision occurred when a Ford Taurus, driving westbound on 17-Side Road, attempted to turn left onto Trafalgar Road in front of a northbound Mazda CX5.

The driver of the Ford Taurus, a 76 year-old Georgetown male, was transported to Georgetown hospital by ambulance, but died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision.

The driver of the Mazda, a 64-year-old female from Acton, was suffered non-life-threatening injuries.  She too was transported to hospital.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, however initial information indicates the northbound Mazda had the right of way at the signalized intersection.

The collision was witnessed by a number of people, many of whom remained at the scene to provide aid to the involved drivers and provided witness statements to police.

The intersection was closed until approximately 8:00 pm for the collision investigation.
