Fairy Lake Busy Bazaar successful first event
If you didn’t get over to the Acton Legion Wednesday evening, June 13, you missed the opportunity to see what your neighbours and friends are doing to earn a little extra money in their lives.
The first Fairy Lake Busy Bazaar, held at the Legion from 7 until 9 p.m., featured around a dozen independent home sales, plus others, showing off their products, and services.
Entrance to the event was free for spectators, and the vendors payed a small fee to the Navy League Cadet Corps Compass Rose, to support their activities throughout the year.
The event was organized as a fundraiser for the Navy League, with the Legion helping by providing the facilities at no cost, said League representative Allen DeRabbie. He added the Legion is a huge supporter of the League by always providing the facilities at no charge for their weekly meetings, and by providing funds on occasion.
The other purpose behind the bazaar was to raise awareness for the Navy League, and promote local vendors to show the community what services and products are available locally from our neighbours within Halton Hills and Wellington County. League public relations officer Rick Rodrigues said the League teaches the children life skills as well as respect, values, and discipline through positive reinforcement.
The League is for both boys and girls ages nine to 12, and if free to join. They meet every Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. from September to June, according to Lieutenant Paul Simas, one of the cadet instructors. He said they are open to any new young people this coming September, as well as adult volunteers. He joked, one of the pluses is getting to wear a spiffy uniform.
DeRabbie said there will be discussions by the League executive as to the success of the event, and whether it will be repeated again or not. He said based on his observations, it will be repeated next year, and maybe another one held in November focussing on Christmas gifts.
