HALTON HILLS, ON – Thinking ahead to support the corporation now and into the future is one of the reasons Chris Mills, Chief Administrative Officer announced an organizational structure change. Approved by Town Council at yesterday’s meeting, the change sees the appointment of Damian Szybalski to the position of Commissioner, overseeing a new department titled ‘Business, Environment and Culture’.
“Damian has proven himself time and again,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “There is nobody better. I am very pleased to congratulate him on his new role.”
Szybalski is currently the Director of Economic Development, Innovation and Culture. The new department adds climate change and asset management to his portfolio which includes economic development, culture, affordable housing, equity, diversity and inclusion, truth and reconciliation.
“We have spent considerable time in conducting research, engaging the public and developing strategies to address Council’s climate change priorities,” said Mills. “The reorganization supports us in executing these plans and I am confident in Damian’s ability to oversee and leverage the efficiencies amongst his team.”
Added Mills, “I want to be clear, that this change does not add to the current staff complement, rather, we are leveraging the abilities of existing to strengthen our internal capacity. Taking this approach supports our direction to balance fiscal restraint with succession planning as we work to deliver on Council’s priorities.”
