Acton Still Has a Heart

The Downtown Acton BIA has put up their Valentine’s Day display at their Parkette at Main and Mill Street. This is their second year using the new Heart decoration, built by Matthew Galliford from House of Workwear. This year, though, the BIA built on the lights balls from their Christmas display to make the Parkette design more of a centre piece in Downtown Acton. This is the first Parkette design since the Fall to not include a hay bale. The BIA started with a couple small hay bales to promote the Farmers’ Market, but with the cancellation of the Fall Fair, the Agricultural Society put up a large bale from a local farmer to inform the community. That bale was so successful that the BIA repurposed it at Halloween and for Christmas. Going into February, though, the BIA decided to change it up. Residents can also participate in the BIA’s #ILoveDowntownActon Contest. If a resident is passing by the Parkette, they can take a picture, use the hashtag on social media and they will be included in a draw for some BIA Bucks. “It’s not a normal Valentine’s Day, but we’re here to show that Acton still has a heart” chuckles Acton BIA Coordinator Alex Hilson. “These are tough times, but we can at least show some pride in how our community looks”.
