Acton Community Gardens First "Paperless" Meeting tonight at 7:00 pm

Tonight the Acton Community Garden will be hosting its first meeting of the 2018 year at 7:00 pm the Dufferin Centre.

The garden chair (myself) has created a keynote presentation that will include 93 different slides on a wide array of topics including some of the setbacks and solutions to setbacks we’ve had this year and last, old and new partnerships, including details about our new partnership with Halton Hills Public Library to create a seed library for Acton, a possibility of our grant, our logo, new garden technology, a summer event we are in the midst of planning and much much more.

Though 93 slides may seem long, I don’t expect the entire presentation to take longer than 45mins, there are multiple places within the presentation for questions, as well as space at the end. Giving time for questions, we are looking at maybe an hour to an hour and a half total meeting time, all depending on the amount of discussion.

I figured the garden, being a “Sustainability Champion” as mentioned in the Halton Hills 2017 State of Sustainability profile, we could lead the way by example by using a keynote to make this our first ever “paperless meeting”. We will still be taking minutes, as well as providing an extended agenda online for board members who could not make it, but other than paper at the table for people to take notes if need be, our meeting will be entirely paperless. I also figured this would help to keep myself on point, as well as make sure everything that needs to be touched upon, is.

Along with the announcement of the meeting I also wanted to use this space to thank all of the organizations that have generously donated or given discounts this year. I had called 29 different places for seed donations, and 3 of them came through big. In total, we received 176 packs of seeds, with donations coming from Willam Dam Seeds Ltd., Urban Harvest, and Moon Fire Farm. We also received a nice discount from Acton Home Hardware on supplies for our seedling program with local schools. While 176 packs of seeds may seem like a lot, all of the seeds that we do not use at the Garden can go to our new seed library which will be located at the Acton Library, more details on that to come soon.

We have also received multiple cash donations from private citizens as well as a community organization. Each donation we receive helps to support, sustain, grow, and maintain the garden for years to come. We are extremely grateful for all the support we are given. If you are interested in helping out at the Acton Community Garden or would like to learn more, feel free to come out to the meeting tonight. All members of the community are welcome. We will also pro summary or "minutes" of the meeting, although some of the things discussed will not be made public until a later date.

Again the meeting is tonight, 7:00 pm located at the Dufferin Centre meeting room in Prospect Park.

Hope to see you there!
