The Christmas season has finished and, to reflect that, the Downtown Acton BIA has changed the look of their parkette. The parkette had a large wreath framed on either side by other banner-end decorations. On Friday, January 31st, the BIA removed the wreath for the season and replaced it with a large heart to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Located at the corner of Mill Street and Main Street, the parkette is home to a large mural celebrating the history of Acton and is one of the only public park-like locations in the BIA area. A resident contacted Nancy Wilkes, who sits on the BIA’s board, and suggested switching out the wreath with a heart. The idea was brought to the rest of the board and led to Matthew Galliford creating the heart. Galliford along with Norman Paulsen and Ben Rowley installed it. For tech savvy individuals, the BIA is encouraging residents to take pictures with the heart for social media using the hashtag #ILoveDowntownActon. “It’s exciting to see a resident’s idea being implemented like this” said Alex Hilson, Acton BIA Coordinator. “It engaged our board to listen to the needs of the community and we’re very proud with the product we’ve created”.
