A GOOD SAMARITAN @ No Frills in Acton Last Saturday,
I stopped by No Frills to pick up a few things and while in their very busy Express Lane Checkout, discovered my credit card payment for a $13 or so purchase was rejected !
The clerk apologized, saying the problem was caused by their machine not accepting Visa and that she should have told me so in advance ! With the checkout line being so busy, I immediately stepped around and over to the far side checkout belt and started to search around in my pockets and wallet to try and find another card or enough cash. However, while doing so, the clerk suddenly leaned over, handed me a receipt and simply said "there you go", to which I responded, "Oh thank you, it did go through after all then". I then packed my bags and headed out.
After putting my bags in the trunk and getting into my car, I checked over my receipt to ensure that I hadn't forgotten anything, other than the cat litter that I had remembered about while still in the line-up, and it was then that I noticed something odd. The receipt stated that my purchase had been paid for by debit rather than by Visa ! ....and the only way that could have happened would have been by someone behind me in the line putting the charge on their debit card ! Nobody had said anything about it at or around the till but while packing, I did notice a gentlemen that had been behind me in the line walk out, staring straight ahead, with what appeared to be a small one item purchase. From the that one glimpse I had, I did unsuccessfully try to search for him in the parking lot but he obviously had driven away. All I can say now is a very big thank you to him for his kindness.
I'd also like to say what a great, wonderful feeling it was to see that in spite of all the negative news we continually hear about, there are still such kind and thoughtful people amongst us.What a great addition it was to the day and again, a very big thank you to my anonymous Good Samaritan !
