11 Twister Teams Headed to OWHA Provincial Champions in April


The North Halton Twisters are proud to announce that 11 of 13 representative teams have earned a Provincial birth this season. After a strong regular season and strong showing through the first two rounds of the play-offs the Twisters are excited to see 11 teams from Novice to Midget battle for the Provincial title in April. For full team recaps see below. Novice B After a season of ups and downs for the Novice B team, they unfortunately will not advance to the Provincial Championships this spring. During their play down run they faced a strong Guelph side along with playing a tough Brampton side.


Novice A In a two team division the Novice A Twisters did not need to play any games to advance to the OWHA 2019 Provincial Championship. The Twisters were matched up with the Orangeville Tigers in region L but did not need to play as all 12 Novice A teams across the Ontario will advance to the provincial championship in April. The Twisters will be joined by Peterborough, Durham West, Whitby, Clarington, Markham-Stouffville, Aurora, Burlington, Oakville, Orangeville, North York and Toronto Leaside.


Atom B - 2 teams to advance GM1: 1-0 win vs Mount Forest GM2: 3-0 win vs Caledon GM3: 3-0 win vs Grand River GM4: 4-0 win vs Brampton GM5: 2-1 win vs Guelph


The Atom B team was on yet another hot streak during the OWHA Provincial Playdowns. The B team only allowed 1 goal through 5 games and outshot their opponents 77-21, averaging 15.4 shots per game while only giving up an average of 4.2 shots per game. Alyssa Edwards, Alyssa Pereira, Isabella Daddabbo, Selena Luciani and Madison Fletcher all scored game winning goals during playdowns. Eden Boycott turned aside 20 of 21 shots she faced picking up 4 more shutouts to add to her season resume. The Atom B team is looking forward to another strong run in April at the Provincial Championship.


Atom BB - 2 teams to advance GM1: 3-0 win vs Orangeville GM2: 4-0 win vs Orangeville GM3: 3-1 loss vs Grand River GM4: 1-1 tie vs Grand River


In a three team division where two teams will advance the Atom BB team has earned their place in the 2019 Provincial Championship, the BB team faced a strong Grand River side and the Orangeville Tigers, the Twisters downed the tigers twice to earn their spot in the championship eliminating the Tigers from Provincial contention. Joining the Atom BB Twisters at the Provincial Championship will be, Kanata, Peterborough, Whitby, Aurora, North Simcoe, Mississauga, Grand River, Etobicoke, Sudbury, Niagara Falls and Flamborough.


Atom AA - 1 team to advance With the OWHA running a 16 team division at the Atom AA level only 1 team of the provinces 17 AA teams will be eliminated from having the ability to compete at the Provincial Championship. The Atom AA Twisters did not have to play in a play down game to advance being the only team located in region L of the province. The Twisters will be joined by Nepean, Kanata, Peterborough, Whitby, Aurora, Markahm-Stouffville, Barrie, Oakville, Burlington, Stoney Creek, Etobicoke, Toronto Leaside, London, Sudbury and either Durham West or Clarington in during Provincial Championship weekend.


Peewee A - 2 teams to advance GM1: 2-0 loss vs Brampton GM2: 2-0 win vs Brampton GM3: 2-0 win vs Guelph GM4: 1-0 win vs Guelph The Peewee A team played in a tough 3 team division for Provincial Playdowns where every game mattered. After dropping their first game to. Brampton the Twisters turned their play around down Brampton 2-0 and going on to defeat the Guelph Junior Gryphons twice to advance to the Provincial Championships in April.


Peewee BB The Peewee BB was also lucky enough to find themselves in a two team advance division this season meaning they did not have to play with their only opponent set to be the Grand River Mustangs. The Peewee BB team has enjoyed a great season and is looking forward to facing the best teams the province has to offer in April.


Peewee B - 2 teams to advance GM1: 4-1 win vs Caledon GM2: 5-1 win vs Orangeville GM3: 4-0 win vs Brampton GM4: 0-0 tie vs Mount Forest GM5: 2-1 win vs Guelph The Lower Lakes Central Division Champion Peewee B team, was hot heading into their Provincial Playdown round robin. The Twisters did not drop a single game and only allowed 3 goals against to advance to the Provincial Championship in April. The Peewee B team is looking to expand on their already successful season as they take on the best teams from across Ontario.


Bantam A GM1: 5-1 win vs Guelph GM2: 3-2 loss vs Brampton GM3: 2-0 win vs Guelph GM4: 2-0 win vs Brampton The Bantam A team who did not advance through round 1 of the play-offs had to quickly turn their play around in provincial play downs to earn a spot in the Ontario Championship. The Twisters picked up 3 wins and a tie along with a plus minus of plus 7 to finish ahead of the Brampton Canadettes to earn the single spot in the championship in April. The Twisters finished tied with Brampton in play down play, but earned the sole spot based on tie breaking rules.


Bantam B GM1: 1-0 win vs Caledon GM2: 2-0 win vs Orangeville GM3: 4-0 win vs Grand River The Bantam B team had an excellent play down run facing off again the Caledon Coyotes, Grand River Mustangs and Orangeville Tigers. The Twisters bounced back after being eliminated from LLFHL play-offs to win 3 straight games allowing no goals through all three games.


Midget AA GM1: 3-1 win vs Brampton GM2: 5-2 win vs Brampton After failing to make the play-offs this season the Midget AA Twisters shift their attention and focus to Provincial Play downs. The Twisters faced Brampton in a first to 4 points, three game series, with the winner advancing. The Twisters swept the series defeating the Canadettes to advance to the Provincial Championship in April. The Midget AA team will have more on the line at Provincials with the eventual winner advancing to the Canadian National Female Hockey Championship the Esso Cup. This year the Esso Cup will be hosted in Ontario with the Sudbury Lady Wolves serving as the host. The Esso cup runs from April 21-27 in the Sudbury Area.


Midget A GM1: 5-1 loss vs Guelph GM2: 4-1 loss vs Brampton GM3: 4-1 loss vs Guelph GM4: 5-0 loss vs Brampton GM5: 6-0 loss vs Brampton GM6: 1-0 for Brampton After a season of ups and downs the Midget A Twisters have been eliminated from advancing to the Provincial Championship in April. The Midget A team was also recently eliminated from round 2 of LLFHL playoffs as well.


Midget B GM1: 2-1 win vs Caledon GM2: 1-1 tie vs Caledon GM3: 1-0 win vs Orangeville GM4: 1-0 loss vs Orangeville


After being eliminated from Lower Lakes playoffs the Midget B team knew they had to battle hard if they wanted to continue their season into early April. The Midget B team came out strong downing the Caledon Coyotes 2-1 in game 1 of their Provincial run, the Twisters finished their play-down run with a 2-1-1 record which proved to be enough as they eliminated both the Orangeville Tigers and Coyotes from Provincial contention.
